9 Emergencies & Contingencies
9.0.1 Technical Disruptions
If your primary internet or power fails, notify your manager and team promptly. Use backup connectivity (hotspot) or shift to async work.
Log downtime in your time tracker (if applicable) with reason.
9.0.1.1 Additional Pointers:
Minimum info: start time, expected duration, impact on deadlines, and plan.
Share updates if the outage exceeds 2 hours.
If you can’t work, switch your Slack status to OOO and update #away-notes.
9.0.2 Personal/Crisis Situations
- In health, family, or local crises, prioritize safety. Inform your manager when feasible; HR will coordinate support and leave options.
9.0.2.1 Additional Pointers:
Use the channel you can access (Slack/phone) — brevity is fine.
HR can coordinate EAP/mental‑health options where available.
Managers should rebalance workload and set clear expectations for return.
9.0.3 Security Incidents & DR
- Follow the Incident Response Guidelines. Severity, on‑call contact, containment, comms, and post‑incident review are mandatory steps.
9.0.3.1 Additional Pointers:
After any Sev1/Sev2, schedule a post‑incident within 24h.
Keep the runbook printable/offline accessible for DR scenarios.
9.0.3.2 Guidelines
Backup Workspots: Identify a secondary location (friend/co‑working) you can reach within 60–90 minutes when feasible.
Natural Disasters/Strikes: Safety first. Notify when possible; managers pause deadlines and replan.
New Work Locations: If you plan to work from a different state/country for >2 weeks, notify People Ops for compliance considerations.
